I have lived in Birstall from the age of 12, I lived at Rothley before that, but then moved away for 7 years before moving back to Birstall in 2000. I'm married to Karen.

I've been a Parish Councillor on two occasions, once for 9 years and currently serving. The reason for the gap was down to work commitments. Looking after and teaching apprentices for Leicester City Council.

I have worked for Leicester City Council for 45 years since July 1977 where I started as an apprentice gardener. I have worked on various green spaces as a Team Manager in that time, around the city looking after cricket squares, football pitches, golf course, nature areas, cemetery work grounds maintenance & burials, allotment sites with workers with learning difficulties, landscaping, and some tree work. I Teach and look after apprentices at level 1 & 2 in work based horticulture C&G standard. At present I work for the standards & development team as a technical officer doing COSHH Audits, Park & Green space condition audits, ladder inspections for parks and green space teams and other departments.

I have qualifications in horticulture City & Guild's Level 1 common subjects, level 2 two years Decorative horticulture, level 3, Level 4, Business and Enterprise Management at Brooksby college, Cemetery qualification Berkshire College (COTS), Health and safety Qualification from Macworth college Derby, golf course qualification from BIGGA,

The reason I became a Councillor was to put my broad green spaces knowledge to good use for the people of Birstall and to keep up the good standards that the staff are doing at the parish, and add some good ideas I hope.

Appointments to External Organisations:

I have been appointed by the Council to represent them at meetings relating to the organisation of the Remembrance Parade and Service and the Charnwood Road Safety Committee.
