Community Speed Watch - Birstall - Set up / appeal for volunteers

As a result of our local priorities within Birstall being in regards to speeding vehicles, which has been raised as a concern on numerous roads throughout the village, I feel it would be a fantastic opportunity and benefit for us together to consider setting up a community speed watch scheme.

In order to do this, we need a minimum of 12 volunteers – one of which to act as co-ordinator for the scheme. Alongside this we would also need a minimum of 200 signatures from residents within Birstall of whom support the scheme.

I therefore appeal to you as a local resident of Birstall to consider volunteering for this scheme, which will enable us together as a community to reduce speed and make our roads safer.

Prior to creating a survey for the 200 signatures required, I would like to identify willing volunteers. Please can I ask that if you are willing to volunteer to be part of this local road safety initiative, please can you make contact directly with myself via email: stuart.venables@leics.police.uk alternatively please come and see me at one of the upcoming events to discuss further - All upcoming events are advertised on our website: www.leics.police.uk

Once a minimum of 12 volunteers have been identified we will progress to the next steps.

If you are unsure of what is involved in the community speed watch scheme, there is further information available online at: www.communityspeedwatch.org.uk

Your support would be really appreciated - it is a really good scheme and if we are able to set one up in Birstall it will go a long way to keeping our roads safe.
